Collector History Walk

We worked with the Collector and District Historical Association to build a truly unique time travel experience.

Knowing our expertise in AR and VR technology, the association came to Code and Visual to produce a location-based app that would take users back in time, allowing them to view historical images of the Collector region, superimposed over the view from their device’s camera.

By viewing points of interest on the app’s map, users were able to find key locations where they could view the local area as it was in the past. This effect was even more profound at locations where only ruins remain, truly bringing back to life parts of the local history that had been lost to time.

We produced the app for both Android and iOS devices, with our team making site visits and doing QA tests to ensure the effects were calibrated for the best user experience.

Additionally, we incorporated user feedback into iterative design improvements, conducted extensive beta testing, and optimized performance across various devices. This comprehensive approach ensured a seamless and engaging experience for all users.

Working with the Historical Association was a great privilege. The end result is something we hope we can bring to other local areas, to encapsulate and preserve their rich histories for future generations in the digital age.
